Juanita concurrently earned Master's Degrees in Vocational Evaluation and Rehabilitation Counseling at East Carolina University.  She served three and a half years with the North Carolina Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services as a counselor, where she also acted as a liaison for the Social Security Administration and the community rehabilitation facilities.  Juanita has served on the state agency task force for the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Professional Group and has served as an officer on the Mayor's Committee for Persons with Disabilities in Lee County.  She has worked as a vocational case manager in the private sector since 1996, where she holds certifications with the United States Department of Labor. She is also a member of the North Carolina Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (NCARP).  Juanita is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC).
